Large Red Murano Venini Glass Bowl, Etched Signature, 57 cm – Zecchin/Cappellini, 1920s
Magnificent large Murano glass centerpiece – Venini (Design: Vittorio Zecchin, 1920s)
Offered for sale is an exceptionally large, modern centerpiece
from the renowned Venetian manufactory Venini. This impressive
piece captivates with its luminous, transparent red hue and the finely
sculpted rosette or ribbed structure at its center, from which the
rim extends elegantly in a wide, sweeping curve.
Design & Historical Context:
The design, dating back to the 1920s (Model No. 1306), is attributed to the
distinguished artist Vittorio Zecchin (1878–1947). Born in Murano as the
son of a glassmaker, he trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice.
Following early, acclaimed works—including a collaboration with Teodoro
Wolf Ferrari at the 11th Venice Biennale in 1914—Zecchin served as artistic
director of Vetri Soffiati Muranesi Cappellin Venini & C. from 1921 to 1925.
During this period, he created groundbreaking glass objects—crafted from
clear glass in delicate colors and inspired by the Venetian painting style
of the 16th century—that are now considered milestones of modern
