Magnificent Antique Designer Set from the Art Deco Period (circa 1920s)
For sale is a museum-quality jewelry ensemble of exceptional quality and art historical significance.
This is a handcrafted silver set consisting of a necklace and matching earrings.
The design is attributed to Josef Wilm the Younger, who worked as a goldsmith for the renowned workshop
of Max Rottmanner in Munich, among others.
Design & Material Details:
Silver (tested for purity), the earring backs were originally gold-plated, but very little of the plating remains.
Large, round amethyst cabochons with beautiful, naturally occurring inclusions.
The stones are backed with foil, typical of the period, to maximize brilliance and color depth.
The necklace consists of openwork, continuous segments in a modernist style. The settings are decorated underneath
with delicate soldered cord.
It was probably once gilded.
Classic hook clasp.
Hallmark: The set bears a rare heraldic hallmark with the initials „MR“ and an animal depiction (lion/bear),
attributed to Max Rottmanner, Munich.
A comparable necklace by Josef Wilm the Younger is documented in the specialist literature.
