Antique Victorian Garnet Brooch, Circa 1870, Gold & Diamond, Rose Cut Memorial Jewelry
A beautiful antique brooch from the High Victorian period (circa 1870).
This exceptional piece of jewelry features three magnificent, deep red
garnet cabochons (carbuncles) set with a delicate fly.
The fly’s wings and the movable drops are adorned with antique rose-cut diamonds.
A classic insect motif of the era, combined with a movable
pendello pendant that catches the light with every movement.
On the back is a glazed compartment with a fabric inlay – a
so-called „medallion“ for memorial jewelry (often used for locks of hair).
The brooch closes with its original long pin and typical C-shaped clasp (which, due to its design, extends beyond the edge).
„` The brooch is in beautiful, authentic original condition.
Please note:
The surfaces of the garnets show slight, age-related wear (fine scratches/flea bites) which are visible under magnification but do not detract from the brilliance of the stone.
The metal surface displays a charming, dark patina that emphasizes its age.
The glass of the back compartment is intact.
